CNC Machinist

As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for operating HAAS CNC machines and programming them to produce high-quality components for our customers. This is a hands-on role that requires expertise in machining techniques, precision, and a deep understanding of CNC programming. You will work with advanced CNC machinery, including lathes and mills, to create parts that meet the strict specifications and quality standards of our products.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities:
 

  • Manufacture parts in accordance with specifications 
  • Understanding of elastomeric and plastic materials, sizes and suppliers
  • Display ability to navigate E2 shop software
  • Interpret engineered drawings and tolerances
  • Ability to select proper material for machining. Prepare material on bandsaw, manual lathe.
  • Perform proper start-up and shut-down procedures on CNC turning center
  • Perform operations utilizing the machine control, including MDI, jogging, and turret indexing
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly load tooling
  • Perform safe insert changes and identify when inserts must be changed
  • Understand the difference between geometry, work and wear offsets
  • Perform machine set up, parts loading and set up of tool geometry. Identify and select proper cutting tools for general turning operations
  • Explain methods of inputting and verifying pre-existing CNC programs
  • Perform measuring procedures pertaining to CNC turning center operations
  • Demonstrate the ability to set up a CNC turning center for first off operations
  • Perform basic manual machining practices. Turning, boring, drilling.
  • Programming of CNC machines in accordance with product specifications 
 
  • Trimming and splitting of seals to specifications 
  • Complete in process inspections and final inspections. 
  • Maintenance 
  • Ability to understand and use all measuring tools related to the machinist trade. Including, but not limited to: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators.
  • Carry out measurements for inspection checklists
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Level 1 skills and concepts
  • Intermediate navigation of E2 shop software
  • Interpret engineered drawings and tolerances, including GD&T
  • Execute proper procedure to generate a standard profile program in DMH
  • Introduction to lean manufacturing techniques
  • Understand the basic elements of a word address program
  • Identify program start-up format, tool ending format, tool start-up format, and program ending format
  • Identify preparatory codes (G codes) and miscellaneous codes (M codes) within programs running on machines
  • Identify T (tool) codes and F (feed) codes
  • Understand the three basic motion types: rapid motion, linear interpolation, and circular interpolation
  • Understand the four types of compensation: wear offsets, geometry offsets, workshift, and tool nose radius compensation
  • Explain when and why block delete, M01 (optional stop), and M00 (program stop) are used
  • Demonstrate how and when to use trial machining
  • Ability to program and run all standard profiles in DMH software
  • Run non-standard profiles on CNC machines

Other Duties:
 
  • Housekeeping. 
  • Participate in worksite hazard assessments, incident investigation, safety meetings, safety training and other aspects of the Hi-Tech Seals Inc. safety and quality control programs as required 
  • Other duties as required 
 
  • Familiarity with Manual, NC, and CNC lathes (Haas) 
  • Knowledge of industry seals.
  • Efficient with all types of measuring instruments.
  • Advanced mathematical skills.

Familiar with DMH software & HAAS controls 
 
  • Grade 12 diploma and/or Machinist Certificate; ideally a registered 2nd year apprentice.
