Mechanical Design Engineer

PURPOSE:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design of new product development and production improvements. This may involve working with contractors, prototyping, and on-site support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (the incumbent may be asked to perform any combination of the following functions):
 
  1. Translate concepts or ideas into technical drawings and schematics using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  2. Create parametric models, BOMs, and detailed drawings as required.
  3. Design and prototype new products and perform research and development.
  4. Design, specify, prototype, or launch new production improvements, include new equipment and processes.
  5. Perform design calculations manually, in excel.
  6. Participate in trouble shooting mechanical designs and prototypes.
  7. Coordinate and manage contractors as required.
  8.  Manage a portfolio of technical projects simultaneously.
  9. Maintain accurate revision history on each drawing.
  10. Contribute to the engineering departments document management system.
  11. Create manuals as required.
  12. Support field installations and training efforts as required.
  13. Prepare patterns using a 2D pattern point cloud system as required.
  14. Prepare costings and budgets as required.
  15. All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
  • Exceptional candidates will have strong business and technical acumen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical or business-related field is preferred. Non-degreed candidates with proper training and experience may be considered.
  • Summary Skill Requirements:
    • Technical:
      • Understands the function of process equipment and is familiar with technical concepts.
      • Able to create and analyze basic engineering models and calculations with engineer assistance.
      • Ability to create and analyze engineering models, engineering drawings, and calculations with engineer supervision.
      • Able to modify existing technical analysis software tools.
    • Data Management:
      • Familiar with the security and controls for applications and data.
      • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify errors and trends, and communicate same
    • Programming:
      • Is proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, including excel.
      • Ability to quickly learn technical engineering software applications (SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
      • Able to modify or adapt applications such as Excel or databases to enhance data input and output.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years Engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing environment.
  • A willingness to learn and be cross-trained within the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
  • Standing/walking.
  • May provide support in operations, involving some physical effort.
